All i did was use a rag and a paint brush and quickly painted it on the fireplace with the brush and came back through with the rag on each stone. I used a 50/50 mixture of tap water and the paint to create more of the “washed” effect so that it didn’t all look like a flat, painted surface. (test first, but some chalk paints will scrub off easily enough. Look into masonry paint, lighten it w/water, and try that.
